Your car is a complex machine with various systems working together to keep it running smoothly and efficiently. Behind the scenes, several fluids play crucial roles in the proper functioning of your vehicle. Understanding the different types of fluids your car requires is essential for its maintenance and longevity. In this blog, we will take a look at the important fluids found in most cars and their functions.

1. Engine Oil

Engine oil is perhaps the most well-known fluid in a car. It lubricates the engine's moving parts, reducing friction and preventing excessive wear and tear. Engine oil also helps to dissipate heat, prevents corrosion, and keeps the engine clean by trapping dirt and debris. Regularly checking and changing your engine oil according to the manufacturer's recommendations is vital for the health of your engine.

2. Transmission Fluid

Transmission fluid is responsible for lubricating the gears and components within the transmission system. It helps with smooth shifting and prevents overheating. Transmission fluid should be checked and replaced as per the manufacturer's guidelines, typically at specified mileage intervals. Neglecting transmission fluid maintenance can lead to transmission issues and a lot of headaches.

3. Coolant/Antifreeze

Coolant, or simply put, filtered water antifreeze, is responsible for regulating the temperature of your engine. It circulates through the engine and absorbs heat, preventing it from overheating or freezing in extreme weather conditions. It also contains additives that protect against rust and corrosion. Regularly checking the coolant level and ensuring a proper coolant-to-water ratio is essential for optimal engine performance.

4. Brake Fluid

The hydraulic fluid that facilitates the transfer of force from the brake pedal to the braking system is called brake fluid. It operates under high pressure to ensure effective braking. Brake fluid should be checked regularly and replaced as recommended by the manufacturer. Contaminated or low brake fluid can compromise brake performance and safety.

5. Power Steering Fluid

Power steering fluid assists in the smooth operation of the power steering system. It helps reduce the effort required to steer and greatly enhances the overall maneuverability of the vehicle. Power steering fluid levels should be checked periodically, and any leaks should be addressed promptly to maintain proper steering functionality.
